Digital Humanities, Community Outreach

Wednesday, February 11, 2015 - 12:00pm

Meyerson Conference Room, Van Pelt Library, University of Pennsylvania

Workshop with Tim Powell

Senior Lecturer in Religious Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, Director of Native American Projects at the American Philosophical Society, and Consulting Scholar in the Penn Museum.

What do more than one hundred Penn undergraduate students have to do with a database of more than 6,000 traditional Iroquois names? Find out in this workshop as Tim Powell describes "Digital Knowledge Sharing," a project that involves repatriating digitized archival materials to Native American communities across North America. More broadly, the workshop will ask how digital humanities can strengthen public history programs and, in doing so, create new job opportunities for graduate students beyond the academy's walls.

Lunch will be provided. Pre-registration required.
Please email saravarney@sas.upenn.edu with your name and academic affiliation.
