Community and Heritage Issues: An International Discussion
Joe Watkins, National Park Service.
Heritage is often discussed in an international context, but more often it is dealt with at the local level. Communities deal with heritage in a myriad of ways as they try to find local solutions to problems and issues while at the same time trying to find ways to utilize that heritage in contemporary economies. Drawing upon examples of community approaches to heritage in New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and the United States, this presentation offers a glimpse at the ways heritage can be managed for the local benefit while at the same time meeting international goals of preservation and protection.
Hosted by the Penn Cultural Heritage Center. Reception to Follow.
