This panel sponsored by the UPenn History Department brings together scholars of the Iberian world to explore the intersections of Indigenous and imperial histories across the early modern period. Through comparative and connected approaches, the discussion highlights Indigenous political orders, African sovereign polities, and the diverse modes of negotiation, entanglement, and resistance that shaped Iberian imperial rule across the Atlantic.
